At TOP FLIGHT Aerial Photography, we work very closely with our clients to determine the story that our photographs should tell about your property. We know just the questions to ask so that we can determine the angle, altitude, time of day, etc. for our flight. Of course, we always take a number of exposures so that we can provide the best choice for you.
What do you want to say about your property? Let us help you get the views you need.
Aerial Photographs can show the subject from the side (oblique view), or directly from above (vertical view). Each provides a different perspective, and can be invaluable for specific purposes. As you can see from the examples, the oblique view shows the walls and sides of buildings, while the vertical does not.

Oblique views are very versatile, and can be used close in to showcase an individual building, or a wide angle can show the subject property in relation to the surrounding area. We frequently shoot a combination of tite, mid and wide to give the whole picture.
![]() Tite Closeup of the property. No distractions! Impressive buildings set in beautifully landscaped grounds. |
![]() Mid Peaceful surroundings! Campus is in a quiet residential area, but with easy access to main traffic route. |
![]() Wide Close to downtown, with easy access to other local business and main traffic routes. |
![]() Steep A near vertical view shows more of the layout of the property, boundaries, and access routes. |
Vertical images fall into two categories—the single image vertical, like the example below, and mapping verticals. The single vertical image is used extensively for properties up to perhaps 1 mile square. If very high resolution is required or if the property is larger, then a series of vertical photographs is taken and stitched together into a single large image like the example at right.
![]() Single shot vertical makes an invaluable reference of individual properties for planning, facilities maintenance, emergency routes and a host of other uses |
![]() Vertical Aerial Mapping covers a wider area, in fact, as far as you want to go! Our aerial maps can show entire urban areas, like this one of downtown Austin, TX |
The resolution of a vertical image specifies the amount of detail that can be seen. Obviously, the better the resolution, the more detail can be seen in the final image. See our samples below.
Resolution: 3 ft per pixel |
Resolution: 2 ft per pixel |
Resolution: 1 ft per pixel |
Resolution: 6in per pixel |
TOP Flight Aerial Photography also provides architectural ground photography, for the complete view of your property, inside and out.

TOP FLIGHT offers a range of options for achieving the best possible images for your project. Most of our aerial photographs are taken from a fixed wing
Cessna aircraft. In special situations, however, we’ll need to use a helicopter.
This allows us to get closer in to the subject for very low obliques or extremely tight shots, but comes at an additional cost to the project.
For our ground-based photography, we also offer options to get a slightly elevated view, looking over cars or other obstructions. For those, we can use a pole-mounted camera, or a lift truck for views up to about 40 feet high.
We’ve all seen panoramic images taken from the ground. TOP FLIGHT also offers panoramic aerial images. A series of photographs are stitched together into a single image. Because they are comprised of multiple photographs, these panoramic composites typically contain tremendous resolution and can be printed quite large (like 10 or 12 feet wide). Please visit the Gallery to view other panoramas.
